Test the retailer as a requirement
Run a scenario with an open seller choice and a matched scenario restricted to your store. Investigate whether suitable products remain in the shortlist. If they disappear, inspect the exact variant, current stock, delivery area and the information retrieved about your offer.
Keep a retailer entity distinct from a marketplace seller or a brand’s direct store. A familiar domain name does not, by itself, establish who fulfils an order.
Look for friction at the handoffs
Follow a product from the answer to its landing page and onward to the basket. Check that the variant persists, the price remains coherent and delivery restrictions become clear before commitment. Record the first point where the customer’s original requirements stop being satisfied.
- ↗Identity: correct seller, model and variant.
- ↗Economics: total price, currency, delivery cost and relevant conditions.
- ↗Availability: the chosen location and delivery method can actually be served.
- ↗Recovery: unavailable products and failed handoffs have a clear next step.
Build a pilot around a category decision
Select a commercially important category with a manageable number of variants. Agree on who can change page content, feeds, structured data and checkout behaviour. Measure the baseline before implementation and record releases so that later changes can be interpreted.
A useful retail deliverable is a prioritized issue register: affected SKU, buyer scenario, observed problem, evidence, responsible owner and verification step. It gives the category and technology teams something concrete to act on.
